New Math Challenge Available

Math Challenge is designed to give students opportunities to sharpen their mathematical problem-solving skills. There will be 14 sets of challenges every other week starting in early October and ending at the end of May. Schedules and problem-solving strategies are available at www.mathinaction.org.

This new program, sponsored by the Peter Kirk PTSA, is completely free and no sign-up is necessary. Throughout the challenges, the program covers problem solving strategies such as draw a picture or model, make an organized list, look for a pattern, working backward, and guess and check.

Here’s how to participate:

1)      Go to our school Math Challenge page at http://www.mathinaction.org/peter-kirk-elementary.html.

2)      Solve as many problems as you can (more than you require to do). We encourage you to discuss strategies and solutions with your parents and siblings.

3)      Submit your solutions by the due date via email to peterkirkmath@gmail.com.

Participate once or submit an answer to every Math Challenge, it’s up to you! We will give recognition to students who at least complete 12 sets of challenges during the 2017-18 school year.
